Title: Being Confident in your Competence: Tricks of the Trait
Abstract:
When researchers break down the contextual components of the IT professional’s overall job performance, perceived competence is the most dominant variable at 44% of the total of measured soft skills. This speech will unpack ways to translate the mastery of your domain in a positive manner, ways to enhance the competencies you may be unconsciously hiding, suppressing the urge to be arrogant, and finally sharpen tools to heighten the awareness of icebergs.

Shere L.H. McClamb Is a Business Systems Analyst and Interim Project Manager for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, SBI- IT Division. She has over 15 years of successful experience as a Business-IT Alignment specialist.
Title: How to use Humor
Abstract: This 30 minute interactive HuMor(e) workshop enables the participant to learn how comedy works so that they can improve not only their sense of humor but interactions with others.
Topics to be covered includes:
Special attention will be paid on the role of humor in a Toastmasters club and how to use it to build rapport.
About Speaker: Al Herr- HuMor(e) Coach
Al’s background in comedy includes founding Raleigh’s Village Idiots, performances at Charlie Goodnights and training with Paul Sills. As a facilitator of “Find Your Inner Comedian” he has taught the techniques of comedy to those wanting to be funnier. He has performed customized shows for Glaxo Smith Kline, Project Managers Intl., United Way and many other corporations and served as comedy critic for Spectator Magazine, interviewing George Carlin, Richard Jeni and many others. He has opened for Bryan Regan.
Cooking, landscaping and discovering old classic films are some of his main personal interests. He is also an expert, amateur carpenter. Nothing makes Al happier than interactive conversations, teamwork and making people feel better through laughter.
Al is also a member of Toastmasters International (TI) and will finish his Distinguished Toastmaster Award in the next year. He has served in four club officer roles and as webmaster, videographer and go to person for multimedia needs. As a Toastmaster he has created innovative, training workshops for his club and is the instigator; keeping the meetings fun. He facilitated Make Your Resume Talk for Wake Technical Community College.
